Handcrafted, one-of-a-kind works of art
We're in a time period where almost everything is mass produced over seas, but I believe that there is still a need for handcrafted items. Almost everything I have made has come from someone showing me a picture asking if I could make it, but with changes here and there. Although there may be similarities, each piece is unique, making it truly one-of-a kind.
I am a creative woodworking artist whose passion is to take your ideas and turn them into reality.
My name is Jason Dugmore. From a young age, I have enjoyed collecting antiques and the woodworking style of the Appalachian Mountains. At the beginning of my junior year of high school, I dove into shallow water and broke my neck. I instantly became a quadriplegic, and my parents were told that I’d be lucky to brush my teeth and feed myself. That was in 1990, some 30 plus years ago! A lot has transpired over the years, and let’s just say that the list of accomplishments far exceeds the initial expectations.
I, first and foremost, give thanks to God for giving me the ability and insight to be able to make each project, a task not always easy to do with only about 10 percent use of my hands. My biggest fans are my wife, Laura, who handles quality assurance and my mom, Patti, for moral support. Craftsmanship runs in the family, and the various traits were passed along.
During my high school and college years, I took multiple creative art classes including 2D/3D art, ceramics, screen printing, and wood shop. I’d like to tip my hat to one of my high school teachers, Roger Smith, who insisted I return to his class and helped me “figure it out”.
Years later, what started out with building a chicken coop with my son, later turned into making simple bird houses and rustic décor from scraps and other reclaimed wood. Before I knew it, friends and family were asking for one-of-a-kind pieces, and that lead to the creation of Dugmore Designs.
